Mayes County Seat in Green Country

Apartments in Pryor, OK

Welcome to Pryor Creek, the Mayes County seat in Oklahoma's Green Country, home to the sprawling MidAmerica Industrial Park and close to Grand Lake.

Pryor — officially the city of Pryor Creek — is the county seat of Mayes County in northeastern Oklahoma, in the rolling Green Country region near the Ozark foothills. Its population was 9,444 at the 2020 census. The city has long served as the commercial and governmental center of Mayes County, but its modern economy is defined above all by the MidAmerica Industrial Park, one of the largest industrial parks in the world, located just south of town. That industrial park has transformed Pryor into an unlikely hub of advanced manufacturing, logistics, and technology employment, drawing major employers and, in turn, supporting some of the better-funded schools in the state. Pryor High School's Innovation Center, located on a Rogers State University satellite campus within the industrial park, connects students directly to the region's employers and adds a higher-education anchor to the city. Despite its industrial base, Pryor retains a small-town feel. Its historic downtown, known as the Coo-Y-Yah district, is filled with local shops, murals, and community events. The city sits close to three lakes, most notably the 46,000-acre Grand Lake o' the Cherokees with its 1,300 miles of shoreline, making boating, fishing, and water recreation central to local life. Pryor appeals to families drawn to stable industrial employment, strong schools, and lakeside recreation in a low-cost Oklahoma setting. Its central location in Green Country keeps Tulsa and the region's lakes within easy reach, and the industrial park's continued expansion adds jobs and amenities to the area. The combination of rural character and industrial opportunity makes Pryor one of Oklahoma's more distinctive small cities.
