Apartments in Oologah, OK

Welcome to Oologah, a Rogers County town in northeastern Oklahoma that is the birthplace of humorist Will Rogers and home to Oologah Lake.

Oologah is a small town in Rogers County, Oklahoma, in the northeastern corner of the state within the region known as Green Country. It sits at the junction of U.S. Highway 169 and State Highway 88, north of Claremore and roughly 30 minutes from Tulsa. At the 2020 census, the town had a population of 1,305. The area was settled in the late nineteenth century within the Cherokee Nation's Cooweescoowee District, and the town grew around a post office established in 1891. Oologah is best known as the birthplace of Will Rogers, the celebrated cowboy, humorist, and writer who became one of America's most beloved public figures in the early twentieth century. The Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch, which preserves the historic Dog Iron Ranch where he was born, remains a notable Oklahoma landmark and a draw for visitors, and the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in nearby Claremore extends the area's heritage offerings. The local economy blends agriculture, tourism, and industry. American Electric Power and Public Service Company of Oklahoma operate the Northeastern Station, a large electric-generating facility that is the town's largest industry, while many residents also work in Claremore or commute to the Tulsa area's aerospace and other employers. Tourism tied to the Will Rogers heritage and Oologah Lake contributes as well. Public education is provided by Oologah-Talala Public Schools, a K-12 district that anchors community life and draws families to the area. Oologah Lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir about a mile west of town, is the center of outdoor recreation, offering boating, fishing, camping, and swimming. The town's compact core retains a small-town feel, with local businesses, churches, and community events serving residents and visitors alike. Together, these elements give Oologah a quiet, rural character with convenient access to the amenities of the Tulsa metro area.
