Arbuckle Mountains Town

Apartments in Davis, OK

Welcome to Davis, a small Murray County city in the Arbuckle Mountains, home to Turner Falls Park — Oklahoma's oldest park and tallest waterfall — and set just west of the I-35 corridor.

Davis is a small city in central Murray County, Oklahoma, set within the Arbuckle Mountains. It sits about 23 miles north of Ardmore, 19 miles south of Pauls Valley, and roughly eight miles west of Sulphur, the county seat. Incorporated in 1898, the city is home to nearly 3,000 residents. Despite its size, it carries an outsized regional presence as the gateway to one of Oklahoma's best-known natural attractions. Like many Oklahoma towns, Davis began along the railroad — specifically the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway — and developed as the center of one of the state's strongest cotton-producing regions. Interstate 35 was later built about two miles west of town, reachable via State Highway 7, which doubles as Davis's Main Street, giving the city a steady flow of travelers and a direct link to both Oklahoma City and the Dallas-Fort Worth corridor to the south. Davis's defining landmark is Turner Falls Park, the oldest park in Oklahoma and the site of the state's largest reported waterfall. The 77-foot falls drop into a natural swimming pool along Honey Creek, and the park — named for Mazeppa Thomas Turner, who settled the area in 1878 — draws visitors from across the region to its caves, hiking trails, and swimming areas within the Arbuckle Mountains. Public education is provided by Davis Public Schools, a single district serving pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade across three campuses. Recreation extends well beyond Turner Falls to the nearby Lake of the Arbuckles and the Chickasaw National Recreation Area near Sulphur. Davis suits those seeking small-town life, outdoor access, and highway convenience — a quiet Arbuckle Mountain community where schools, churches, and Main Street form a tight civic core, anchored by one of Oklahoma's most visited natural parks.
